The fourth generation of the Camaro. The 4th Generation brought some of it's retro 3rd generation look to the table as
well as some of it's own fire, as the design concept was basically a refined 3rd generation design...however, it was radically
different under the hood and throughout...
The 4th generation(1993-2002) is spit into two bodystyles.
93-97 is the "LT" body style and 98-02 is the "LS" body style. In 1997, GM looked to redesign the small block completely,
they called it the LS1. It started in corvettes in 97 and went to f-bodies in 98. The LS1 was a major improvement over the
LT engines in terms of power, fuel mileage, weight, durability, NVH and emissions. The LS1 was all aluminum, and
weighed about 60 lbs. less than a cast iron LT1 with aluminum heads. The LS1 made about 340hp and about 360tq.If you google
LS1 you will definately learn more, there is so much info out there, and these engines are very very popular.

Police all over the U.S. used the Camaro as their standard squad car because of it's look, speed, and Camaros get all
the chicks. yes. chicks. This is a 1999 Camaro S/S with the police interceptor package. (1LE suspension and RPO B4C). Basically,
police picked v-6 cars and had them converted to a v-8 (RPO B4C). They also installed GM's racing suspension. So, these cars
were actually lighter than there Z28 or SS counterparts.

This is a 1993-1997 Camaro body style. The small rectangular headlights, pointed nose, etc. The major difference was
the engine. For 1993-1997, GM put a "corvette inspired" LT1 into f-bodies. The LT1 was a 350CI V-8 with about 275hp and 350
tq.These small block engines were different from the small blocks produced from 1955 to 1991. But that is a story for a different
time. The major difference between the two was that the LT series (93-97) had reverse flow cooling, meaning engine coolant
flowed from the radiator to the cylinder heads, then the cylinder block, then back to the radiator. Also, the "ABITIS" distributor
was run off the front of the crankshaft, rather than the rear of the camshaft.

A 93 to 97 Z/28 with the 4th Generation Z/28 rims.

This is the 1999 ZL-1 Camaro. Nearly everything on this car was changed to handle the addition of a 572 BBC. The rear
axle, driveshaft, transmission were strengthened, firewall was cut, and every body panel was reinforced to handle the large
increase in power. Rumor is the car made 800 hp and 700 tq. You can look it up on the internet for verification. The
reason this car was made was to show that a BBC can in fact fit into a 4th gen F-body.

another Police Camaro. doesn't surprise me. The engines in these bad boys had about 340 horsepower.
But, cops like to mess with them, so with this one, i'm guessing it has 385 horsepower, and will probably do over the
factory rating of 162 mph. And these cars are mostly in Florida, and Georgia. So if you are in the Southeast, drive the
speed limit, lol.
(RPO B4C meant a camaro sport coupe, fitted with an SS V8. So these cars were lighter than their Z28 or SS
counterparts).
1LE was a racing inspired suspension package that included better brakes, aluminum driveshaft, oil cooler
etc.
That wraps up the fourth generation of the Camaro. Hope you enjoyed the journey. Maybe i even got someone hooked
on the Camaro, oh i don't know, maybe Kyle Rarrat. Sadly, this was the last generation, in 2002 GM threw in the towel,
probably because the now ancient F-body, (the frame the Camaro was built on) was not up to par with current safety regulations,
and it would cost more to redesign the body, so GM just called it quits. However, Canada was not happy about this, as the
largest Camaro/Firebird production facility was located in St. Therese, Canada. Supposedly, (don't know if it is true) but
GM had a contract to keep the plant open until 2012. So, needless to say, there were many unhappy Canadian workers who
lost their jobs. Today, the plant is demolished. The firebird will probably never return, (sister car to camaro). Pontiac
says they have plenty of other cars to take its place, and that is something i'm angry about. The new camaro is set for production
in Oct. of 2009. Time will only tell if the firebird returns as well.
